Highlands & Coast Tour
01.05. – 09.05.2021
(Individual tours by appointment)
A trip to Scotland starts generally in Edinburgh. Within easy reach you find lots of castles, distilleries, small villages and much more sights.
But there is a feeling that the real Scotland begins in the very Northwest beyond the Caledonian Canal and Inverness. Here you find lonely and empty roads, fantastic landscapes and the breathtaking coastline of the Atlantic on single track roads. It‘s touring on the edge to discover the wild and unknown you won’t find somewhere else.
The Highlands & Coast Tour gives you this unique experience. Starting at the Fonab Castle Hotel in Pitlochry the tour follows challenging roads until you reach Durness in the very North. It then winds alongside the coast down to the Isle of Skye. From here the tour leads back to Edinburgh, passing the gorgeous Glencoe. Be curious and ready for lots of surprises!
The tour runs as follows:
Car pick up at Edinburgh Airport. First trip to Pitlochry. In the afternoon meet and greet at the Fonab Castle Hotel. Tour briefing and joint dinner in the evening.
The first leg takes the tour to Inverness. On our way we pass the central Highlands and drive for about 135 miles aglongside Loch Ness. The day terminates at the Rocpool Hotel.
Today we drive to the North until we meet the Atlantic. In between the first stop will be the fantastic Dunrobin Castle by the North Sea. Then we pass the village of Lairg until we take the single track road to Tongue and further on to Durness. Lots of emotion and an amazing scenery takes us on about 140 miles through the day. We stay at Mackay’s Rooms am dine at the Smoo Cave Restaurant..
Another great day for a drive alongside the wild Atlantic coast. We need 135 miles to reach Torridon, our next overnight stop. Quick changing impressions all day. Winding roads through deserted areas. The Torridon hotel’s Chez Roux Restaurant awaits us for a great dinner in an extraordinary atmosphere.
Today we head for the Isla of Skye. On our way we take the highest pass in Great Britain: Applecross pass.Steep single track roads take us up and down again. A real challenge. On our way we visit Eilean Donan Castle, hop on the isle for two nights at Kinloch Lodge.
We spend the day on Skye, visit a couple of sights or simply relax.
We leave the Island by ferry and drive further south. By chance we might eyecatch the Jacobite steam train which has been featured in the Harry Potter movies. We experienc the Glencoe valley and finalise today’s tour in Dunblane. Here we stay at the Cromlix Hotel.
After breakfast we drive to Edinburgh, return the cars and check in at the Bonham Hotel. Guided town walk through the Old- and New Town.
